COVID-19 Mask Wearing Updates:
Since Governor Lamont’s announcement on February 7th regarding masking in schools, we have been meeting with our school districts to discuss the executive orders and the local impact. The Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Connecticut Department of Education are expected to release guidance and metrics surrounding mask wear in schools shortly. We will be continuing to meet with our superintendents, provide incidence rates of COVID-19, vaccination rates, and hospitalizations as the data is made available. Local public health, as well as local school districts across the state are awaiting the masking metrics from the State Department of Public Health and State Department of Education. As per the most recent communication from the state, they hope to have that published shortly.
The summary of the Office for Early Childhood (OEC) statement released on February 16, 2022 is as follows:
- The requirement for COVID-19 vaccination and testing by state employees and covered workers in schools and child care facilities was not extended and is no longer in effect as of February 15, 2022
- Will continue to issue guidance to programs based on recommendations from CT Department of Public Health
- Individual child care programs may choose to implement their own masking wearing policies or requirements.
- They continue to recommend mask wearing in the child-care setting.
